Service in Livonia

Mikołaj Korff (died 1659) belonged to a family closely associated with Livonia. His earlier career unfolded amid the Commonwealth's long rivalry with Sweden over that region. He became castellan of Wenden in 1634 and voivode in 1643. Those offices remind us that Lithuania and Livonia had political elites and wartime experiences of their own; the Deluge was more than a campaign in the Polish Crown lands.1

Kėdainiai

He arrived at the Lithuanian camp with Bishop Piotr Parczewski in September 1655; he should not automatically be added to the August act. On 20 October he signed the agreement that placed part of Lithuania under Charles X Gustav's protection and broke its existing union with the Crown. For a voivode of the Baltic lands, this was a decision about a region long exposed to Swedish wars.23

Novel and film

Korff belongs to the real political background of the Kėdainiai events. We found no confirmed separate role for him in Hoffman's film cast.4
