Fighting for the crossing

At Nowy Dwór, the Swedish army defeated the Masovian noble levy. The Polish Army Museum dates the event to 30 September 1655, but its brief entry does not describe preparations or command in detail1.

A history article published by CKZiU in Mrągowo covers the wider operations of 20–30 September. It identifies Gustav Otto Stenbock as the Swedish commander and Płock voivode Jan Kazimierz Krasiński as commander of the levy. The main Polish force stood beyond the Narew; the Swedes prepared a bridge under artillery cover and crossed to attack on 30 September2.

What the timeline date means

The date of 30 September refers to the decisive engagement. Treating the whole operation as a single day would omit the preparations for the crossing. The school account also gives troop and casualty estimates, but those have not been independently confirmed here and are omitted2.

This episode belongs to the invasion's first phase. The year 1655 gives the wider campaign, while Stenbock's biography links to references on the Swedish commander. The novel section treats Sienkiewicz's plot separately, keeping literary scenes distinct from historical documentation.
