Film and radio actor

Zygmunt Maciejewski was born in Berlin on 21 December 1914 and died in Warsaw on 12 August 1999. SFP’s filmography includes stationmaster Tuszka in Man on the Tracks, Linde in In Desert and Wilderness, and the cargo owner in The Shadow Line1.

Kordecki: voice and image

The Deluge documentation credits Maciejewski with dubbing Kordecki, portrayed on screen by Stanisław Jasiukiewicz2. Jasiukiewicz’s profile examines post-synchronisation through Hoffman’s account.

The viewer experiences one character combining one actor’s physical presence with another’s voice. Observe gesture and expression separately from the pacing, emphasis and pauses in speech.

Earlier work together in radio

Polish Radio’s archive records Na północ wyspa (1957), based on Ermanno Maccario: Maciejewski translated, adapted and directed it, and played the Stranger; Jasiukiewicz played the Officer3. Their names therefore occur in shared work long before The Deluge.

The production guide expands on the film’s sound and versions.

Recording the voice after filming

Hoffman recalled that editing and sound work began after filming ended in May 1973. Włodzimierz Olszewski sought voices for actors who had died; the director named Jasiukiewicz. The cast record identifies Maciejewski as the voice of Kordecki45.

Seeing the actor we hear

The Polish Biographical Portal shows Maciejewski in a photograph from Jarosław Dąbrowski (1975). Its caption identifies him as the first person from the right. This is a different film: the face of the prior in The Deluge is Jasiukiewicz’s6.
