Course of events

Forces loyal to John Casimir under Wojniłłowicz defeated Swedish troops at Krosno. The victory was one of several local actions against Swedish units and garrisons.1

A closer look

The victors fought more than Swedish troops. According to the museum, Gabriel Wojniłłowicz also defeated men under Aleksander Pracki who supported Charles X Gustav. After entering Krosno, they held proceedings against townspeople accused of collaboration; the war also involved local reckonings.1

From a local success to the king’s return

Wojniłłowicz went from Krosno to Łańcut, reporting his success to the king on 10 December. He joined the Tyszowce confederation. John Casimir reached Krosno on 4 January 1656; commanders discussed recruits from occupied districts.2
