A closer look

George II Rákóczi’s forces had tried to take the city since 12 June. According to the museum, Swedish reinforcements made it possible to overcome the brief but determined defence. Commander Eliasz Łącki signed an honourable surrender, and supply difficulties forced the attackers to leave after about two weeks.1
