Course of events

John II Casimir made his vows in Lwów Cathedral. The act had both religious and political meaning as resistance to Sweden revived.1

A closer look

In Lwów Cathedral, before dignitaries and representatives of different estates, the king promised to improve the position of peasants and townspeople after liberation. That social pledge is easily missed when the vows are described only as a religious act. The Polish Army Museum also notes that it was not fulfilled.1
