The conversation that changes Kmicic's decision

In the novel, Bogusław Radziwiłł is Hetman Janusz's relative and participates in his political plans. A conversation with the prince makes Kmicic realise that loyalty to the Radziwiłłs does not mean what he had expected. Sienkiewicz presents this exchange as a turning point in his departure from their service1.

Abduction and escape

Kmicic abducts Bogusław, but the prince shoots him in the face and escapes. The wounded protagonist must find a way forward outside the Radziwiłłs' service. In the next volume he renounces obedience to Janusz in a letter and begins using the name Babinicz2.

Historical person and literary character

Bogusław Radziwiłł was a real person, but his activities are examined separately in the historical biography. Keeping the two portraits distinct avoids attributing every speech and action written by Sienkiewicz to the actual prince.

On screen

Leszek Teleszyński plays Bogusław in the 1974 adaptation3. His cast profile concerns the actor and his work on the role.
